  1. First, students determine the number of waters of hydration in MgSO4 by ignition to constant mass to remove the water. Second students determine the percent mass of NaCl in a mixture of NaCl and MgSO4 xH2O.

Prepper Supplies

  1. Nickel crucibles, Clay triangles, wire gauze, iron rings, ring stands
  2. MgSO4-xH2O, mixtures of NaCl-MgSO4.xH2O (make new unknowns if there aren's enough)

Prepper Special Instructions: Determination of x in MgSO4.xH2O requires 3g. The same amount of unknown is needed for the unknowns. Stir the unknowns to make sure homogeneous.
